Kardi

The kardi is often described as a large rat that stand on two legs. They can be found in the lower levels of the crypt, and like rats, are associated with uncleanliness. Kardi owners argue that once cleaned up, kardis have a beautiful, soft brown coat that can be either medium or long in length.

Kardis feed on insects, small animals (such as mice) and also enjoy fruits and vegetables (rotten or otherwise).

Other Methods of Obtaining a Kardi

Because cleanliness and disease are concerns with catching wild kardi, it is generally recommended to get one from a reputable breeder. Mundane breeders do offer this pet to aislings ((300 Kruna in the Item Shop)).

Both the mother and father share equal responsibilities when caring for young; It is important for owners to keep the families together until the young are old enough to forrage or hunt on their own. If you plan to breed a kardi, it is best to be in personal possession of both the male and female kardi (opposed to only “loaning” the male or female to a breeder).

Caring For Your Kardi

Kardis are cheeky animals with a lot of energy, so make sure they are given the opportunity to move around. They also have very large, sharp front teeth. It is highly recommended that you provide items for your pet kardi to chew on – otherwise, they will find their own, and you may not like their choice. If their teeth are not kept dull they will continue to grow and become unmanageable by the pet. Sticks are an acceptable chew toy for your pet kardi.

Other Facts

Kardis have great night vision, making them a popular pet for rogues.

Kardis have been used during wars throughout history to deliver secret messages in the dark of night, and even through sewers. It is rumored that they are still employed today by secret sects of the government and the darker faiths.

Capturing a Kardi

There are many methods that will work to capture a kardi. The bait-and-trap method has a high success rate. The creature can be captured in a basket, or even by tossing a blanket over the kardi and wrapping a rope around it. Just watch out for the creature’s teeth and nails.

Taming a Kardi

Like most mammals, kardis respond well to treats and praise. Remain patient, clam, and consistent when taming your kardi, and you should have no problems handling them. Once tamed, they can be trained to gather items in dark places, or discreetly carry messages.
