Horse

Horses can be very rewarding and enjoyable to have. They are beautiful, energetic, loving, and proud animals that can also be very useful. Horses can be ridden and even tamed to perform.  With strong, muscular legs, most horses stand taller than an aisling. They can come in a variety of colors, but are often found just in brown in Temuiar. Owning a horse requires dedication, a lot of gold, and plenty of space.  This is not a pet that is recommended to anyone who does not have proper training, or who cannot afford to gain it. The stablehand, Markett, in Piet can teach you how to care for your horse and also offer supplies to you. A horse’s diet consists mainly of grass, but they also eat grains. They enjoy treats such as apples, carrots, beets, and sugar cubes.

Taming a Horse

Keep the horse in a closed in area, such as a pen. You will need to give the horse some space and time for the horse to get use to its new surroundings. You want your horse to be curious and comfortable in his new home, opposed to being afraid. Slowly, expose your horse to new elements, including your presence. The goal is to desensitize the horse to your touch, as well as other things, such as a saddle.

You will also want to make it accustomed to things being moved around both in front of and on top of it. This way when people and things interact with the horse, particularly if you decide to ride it, the horse will not become afraid. Use a variety of objects, especially rope, until your horse becomes accepting of seeing and feeling them.

Consistency is key, because trust is a huge factor in the behavior of horses. Never attempt to ride the horse until you have gained complete control and trust from the animal. This is a slow process that will require several deoches before the horse is considered broken. Consider using the command-reward technique to motivate your pet and reinforce good behavior.

Capturing a Horse

Feral horses no longer exist in Temuair or anywhere presently known to us in Medenia.  Since before the first spark of an aisling, these creatures were domesticated. Semi-domestic horses – that is, horses that may be loose or have managed to breed in the wild, but still have parents who were domesticated – can still be found in open, grassy fields.

Should you come across an undomesticated horse that you plan to tame, you will be able to catch it with a good length of rope. Catching it will require a great amount of stamina and muscle. The best way to actually catch the horse is by wearing it out and/or herding it into a pen. Horses can even be lured with treats, such as aisling had to when the Gods’ Horses roamed the lands and had to be brought to their respective God’s temple.

Other Facts

Horses can sleep standing up.

Aislings can ride horses, even if they do not own a pet horse; Markett in Piet will be happy to loan aislings a horse ((horse mount from the kruna shop)) .

Your pet horse can live about 25 deochs.

Caring for your Pet Horse

Horses require a lot of care; from grooming to cleaning their pen, bed, and stable. They will also require a good deal of exercise, otherwise they will become restless.  Before you decide on getting a pet horse, make sure you put a lot of consideration into it. If you do not plan to care for the horse yourself, you can always hire a groom or stablehand/stableboy to assist you.

Pet Horse Gift

In Deoch 77 the mundanes offered non-fragile aislings a choice between three pets: a succubus, a green dragon, or a horse. ((This was in compensation for the server downtime between October 28th and 30th in 2005, for auto-renewal account.))

Untameable: Horse of the Gods

The Gods' Horses have escaped to Temuair in the past. Aislings were tasked with luring the horses back to their God's respective temple. In return, the God gifted a pet to the Aisling. These horses cannot be tamed by mere Aislings, but only lured with beets and carrots.

Other Methods of Obtaining a Horse

Horses are social animals, and thus can be kept together. Keeping a male and female horse together and allowing nature to run it's course should be enough to breed horses.
