Basics
Classes are taught at the Mileth College by nobles. Nobles are aislings who submitted a work to the college that was subsequently recognized at the village level or higher. Thus nobles are sometimes also referred to as "recognized aislings".
There are five subject departments at the Mileth College: Art, History, Literature, Lore and Philosophy. Classes are taught under one of these five categories, however the content of individual lessons can vary widely with overlap, and lessons expanding beyond these subjects is not uncommon.
All aislings are welcome to attend classes. There is no charge for attending nor is it customary to tip teachers. You will need to have some labor, however, if you wish to gain experience and other material rewards.
While in the past teachers usually scheduled classes in advance, most classes in modern times are conducted ad-hoc. When a teacher is about to hold a class a world shout will be sent out ten minutes prior and another once the class has begun.
The ad-hoc nature of classes can be frustrating. Here a couple tips for those interested in attending classes:
-Join Dark Ages Unofficial on Discord. The channel bot relays world shouts from in game. You can set up channel preferences to be notified of class announcements.
-Reach out to active teachers. You can do this by checking past class annoucements on Dark Ages Unofficial on Discord too see who has been teaching lately. They may be able to give you a heads up of when they will be teaching again.
Attending A Class
1. After a class has been announced head to the classroom of that subject. Take a seat and wait for the class to begin. Refer to the college campus map:
((Click to see in full size))
2. ((When the class begins your character should receive a message saying: "You accept a lesson from [teacher name].
If you did not receive that message most likely your character did not have enough labor. You can continue listening to the class, but your character will not receive any experience or other rewards at the end of it. If you can have someone labor your character during the lesson you can then request the teacher to add your character as a 'tardy'. ))
3. The teacher will then conduct their class. Class times can vary, but the minimum is twenty minutes. When a class has begun students will not be able to speak without permission from the teacher; however whispers will still work.
* Always be respectful during a class. Teachers have the ability to remove disruptive students from a classroom and to banish them from the campus grounds if need be. *
4. If you were late for class you can request tardy credit from the teacher. It is at the discretion of the teacher to grant this or not; in practice most teachers are very generous. Without tardy credit you will not able to gain experience and other rewards from the class. Most teachers will usually ask towards the end of a class if there any tardy aislings and if so to whisper them.
((Note: The teacher needs to manually assign tardy students via the in class mundane. Once the teacher enters your character's name you should receive a pop-up asking if you would like to accept their lesson. If you do not receive the pop up it is likely your character lacks sufficient labor.))
Attendence Rewards
When a teacher has finished their lesson they will 'cast' class and students will 'receive' class. ((Press F5 or walk around the map to receive it after it has been cast. Characters cannot remain still.)) Upon receiving class students can receive the following awards:
1. Experience
2. A random chance for an "Educated" mark one's legend. After an aisling has three educated marks, they can submit a work for recognition.
3. Daily Quest Token & More Experience
---After the class has been cast you will need to go to the Mileth Library and speak to Uistean about class attendance credit.
---You will receive more experience and a daily quest token which can be redeemed with the mundane Celesta at Pravat South Entrance.
You can attend as many classes as you want; however you will only be able to receive experience and a daily quest token once per day.
4. Danaan Reincarnation
-To complete the Danaan Reincarnation quest ((external link)) you will need to attend any class at the Mileth College.
